1. Summary
- No account is required. You can use CarLog without signing up or giving your name, email address or phone number.
- Your records stay on your device. The car details and refueling records you enter are stored in a database inside the app on your device.
- The current version of the app does not send your data to us or to any other server, and we cannot see or access it.
- No analytics, advertising or tracking. The app does not contain analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking software development kits (SDKs).
- You are in control. You can export your data or delete it permanently at any time from the app’s Settings.
2. Scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the CarLog mobile application (“CarLog”, “the app”) and this website handle information. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the developer of CarLog.
It applies to the current version of the app as distributed through official channels such as Google Play. If a future version changes how information is handled, we will update this policy before that version is released (see “Changes to this policy”).
3. Information the app processes
CarLog only works with information that you enter yourself. This includes:
Vehicle information
- Car brand and model, and optionally the year.
- Fuel or energy type (gasoline, diesel, LPG, hybrid or electric).
- Odometer reading, distance unit (kilometres or miles), currency code and default fuel unit.
Fuel and refueling records
- Date and time, odometer reading, and one or more fuel lines — for example petrol and LPG bought at the same stop — each with its fuel type (petrol, diesel, LPG or electricity), amount (liters or kWh), price per unit and cost.
- Whether the tank was filled completely, and any optional note you add (for example a station or trip name).
App preferences
- Your chosen language and appearance (dark, light or system), and whether you have seen certain tips.
From this information the app calculates figures such as fuel consumption, costs and statistics. These calculations are performed on your device.
Please avoid entering sensitive personal information in free-text fields such as notes. The app does not ask for your name, contact details, location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone.
4. Where your information is stored
On your device
Your vehicle information, refueling records and preferences are stored in a local database in the app’s private storage on your device. Other apps cannot read this storage under the normal security model of Android.
The database also keeps a small internal list of which records were changed and when. It exists to support possible future sync features, stays on your device, and is not sent anywhere.
Home-screen widgets
If you add a CarLog widget, the app saves a small summary for it — for example the car name, consumption values, odometer and this month’s fuel cost — in storage that is shared only between the app and its own widget on your device. Keep in mind that a widget on your home screen is visible to anyone who can see your screen.
Device backups
Android may include app data in your device backup, depending on your device and your backup settings (for example, backup to your Google account). Such backups are managed by Google or your device manufacturer under their terms and your settings, not by us, and we have no access to them.
5. Information sent to servers
The current version of CarLog does not transmit your vehicle information, refueling records or preferences to us or to any third party. The app does not use an account system, cloud storage or cloud sync, and we do not operate a server that receives your app data.
Optional cloud sync may be considered for a future version. If it is ever introduced, it will be opt-in, it will require you to create an account, and this policy and the app’s store listing will be updated before it becomes available.
6. Information we do not collect
Based on how the current version of the app is built, we do not collect:
- Your car, refueling or cost data.
- Your name, email address, phone number or any account credentials.
- Precise or approximate location.
- Contacts, photos, files, camera or microphone data.
- Advertising identifiers or data for tracking you across apps or websites.
- Usage analytics or crash reports through third-party SDKs inside the app.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties, because we do not receive it.
7. Why the app processes information
The information you enter is processed on your device only to provide the app’s features:
- keeping your refueling history and vehicle details;
- calculating consumption, costs and statistics, and drawing charts;
- showing a summary in home-screen widgets, if you add them;
- remembering your language and appearance settings;
- creating an export file when you ask for one.
8. Third-party services
The app does not include third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or social-media SDKs. Some services outside our control may still process information under their own policies:
- Google Play. When you download or update the app, Google processes information as described in Google’s Privacy Policy. Google Play may provide app developers with aggregated statistics such as install numbers and, for users who have chosen to share diagnostics with Google, crash and performance reports. This data is collected by Google, not by the app.
- Android system features. The operating system provides features the app uses, such as the share sheet, home-screen widgets and device backup.
- Apps you share exports with. When you export your data, the app creates a CSV or JSON file and opens your device’s share sheet. Where the file goes — for example an email app or cloud storage — is your choice, and that service’s own privacy terms apply.
9. Data retention and deletion
Your information stays on your device until you remove it. You can:
- edit or delete individual refueling records in the app;
- permanently delete all your data with Settings → Reset local data (this cannot be undone);
- uninstall the app, which removes its data from your device.
Because we do not receive your app data, we cannot view, export or delete it on your behalf. Copies you exported yourself, and device backups, are not affected by deleting data in the app and must be removed separately.
10. Exporting your data
You can export your vehicle details and refueling records at any time from Settings → Export as CSV or Export as JSON. The export file is created on your device and shared only where you choose. A temporary copy stays in the app’s cache on your device until Android clears it, you clear the app’s storage or you uninstall the app. Treat exported files as personal information and store them securely.
11. Security
Your data is kept in the app’s private storage and protected by your device’s security features. To protect it, use a screen lock, keep your device’s software up to date, and be careful where you share export files. No method of storage is completely secure, but because your data is not transmitted to us, it is not exposed to risks from our servers.
12. Device permissions
CarLog does not ask you to grant any permission while you use it, and it does not access your location, contacts, camera, microphone, photos or other files.
Permissions declared by the Android app
- Internet access (INTERNET) — included by the app framework. The current version does not use it to send or receive your data.
- Vibration (VIBRATE) — used for short haptic feedback, for example when you save a refueling.
- Storage on Android 12 and older (READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE) — included by the app framework. CarLog does not read or change your photos or other files: export files are created in the app’s own storage and passed to the share sheet.
- Display over other apps (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) — included by the app framework for development tools. CarLog does not show content over other apps.
Home-screen widgets use standard Android widget features and need no additional permission. If a future version changes these permissions, we will update this section.
13. Children’s privacy
CarLog is a tool for vehicle owners and drivers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app does not send any information to us.
14. This website
This website provides information about CarLog. It does not use cookies, does not include advertising scripts, and does not contain forms that collect personal information.
To see how many people visit the site and which pages they view, we use Vercel Web Analytics, provided by Vercel, the company that hosts this website. For each page view it records the page address, the referring website, an approximate location (country, region and city), and the type of browser, operating system and device. It does not use cookies; Vercel counts visitors using a hash created from the request, which it discards after 24 hours. According to Vercel, this data is anonymous and is used only for aggregated statistics, so we cannot use it to identify you. Content blockers may prevent it from running. See Vercel’s Web Analytics privacy information.
Like most websites, the hosting provider that serves this site may automatically process technical information — such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested — in server logs in order to deliver the site and protect it against abuse. We do not use this information to identify you.
If you contact us by email, we use your message and email address only to reply and keep a record of the conversation.
15. Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or obtain a copy of your personal information. Because your app data is stored only on your device, you can exercise these directly in the app: view and edit records, export them, or delete them. For any question about your information, contact us using the details on our Contact page.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy, for example when the app gains new features. We will post the updated version on this page and change the “Last updated” date above. If a change affects how your data is handled — such as introducing optional cloud sync — we will update this policy before the change takes effect.
17. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or about how CarLog handles information, please contact the developer of CarLog using the details on our Contact page.
